 It's the Cardinals' Turn

It was not exactly the World Series everybody wanted to see this year, but it turned out to be a good one.  The two teams with the best regular season records were not even there.  The Yankees and the Mets tied for that record and most were expecting to see a subway series.  However, it was not to be.

The Yankees went into the American League Division Series as very heavy favorites.  The Tigers, though, reached back and found something extra to prove that "underdog" thing was really wrong.  They lost the first game, but then swept the next three.  Their pitchers were able to completely bewilder the Yankees hitters.  After that, it was clear that they would win the pennant.  They swept the A's as expected.

Over in the National League, the Cardinals won the NLDS as did the Mets.  It looked as if the Mets were going to make it, anyway.  After all the Cardinals finished the regular season 83-78.  That was almost the lowest record to ever go on to win the Series.  Surely the Mets would take them.  Not so, as the Cardinals took them in seven.  The Cardinals were to get another shot at the Series after getting swept by the Red Sox in 2004.  This time they made the most of it.
